Name: Bob aka Tawcan
Random question: You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why? Navy blue because that’s my favourite colour. I also feel that navy blue is a great colour that can fit in with any other colours. It’s not too dark and it’s not too bright.
Are you a bold introvert? Have you always been one? I have always been an introvert. Growing up there had been days where I didn’t say a word to anyone else. Even today when I don’t feel comfortable at a social surrounding, I tend to keep to myself. However, due to various experiences, I have learned to step out of the introvert shadow. Now I’d say I’m a bold introvert as I can be a bit extrovert if absolutely necessary. I have learned ways to start a conversation and keep a conversation going. At FinCon 17 last year in Dallas I didn’t have too much trouble saying hi to random people and walking up to well-known bloggers and say hi. Looking back, I think the defining moment for me was living in the university dormitory and meeting new people for the first time. I realized that I had to step outside of my comfort zone to become a more well-rounded person.
What do you do? I am a person with many different interests. I write a personal finance blog focusing on my quest for financial independence and happiness. Being a left-handed person I’m very creative by nature. I used to draw a lot but now I love to express my creative side through photography. Somehow I have a natural talent for photography, especially portraiture. So I have been specializing on portraiture and wedding photography with my photography side gig. It’s a little bit weird having a bold introvert working with other people.
I graduated university with an engineering degree and worked as an engineer for several years. Now I work as a product manager in a high-tech firm. It’s a bit funny because I have to deal with people on an every day basis, which is something an introvert typically does not like.
What are you most proud of? Being a dad of two young kids. Since becoming a dad my life has significantly changed. Every day I am reminded how great and amazing my kids are.
Do you feel that your personality trait has helped you achieve your goals? Absolutely. As an introvert has helped me realizing things that I needed to push myself. This included forcing myself to be more extrovert and learning how to feel more comfortable in social settings. Overcoming personal challenges that many introverts face has allowed me to se personal goals from a different perspective. Even though a goal might seem super challenging, I don’t get timid. I know if I set my mind to it, I can accomplish the goal, regardless how challenging it is.
What advice do you have for introverts who are worried about chasing their dreams? Set your mind to it and stop worry about what others think about you. If you are worrying about what others think about you all the time, you will never get anything done. You can’t control what others think about you, you can, however, control how you think about yourself. Be confident with what you do.
