4 Tips On How To Have A Morning For Champions

6:30am: Beep beep beep.

You could’ve sworn you just closed your eyes.

But instead it’s time to go to work and you’re running late…again. You rush around the house grabbing all the bits you need for the day and head out the door!

Does this morning sound familiar?

Do you feel like you’re continuously chasing the day? Do you feel that time is literally speeding up and you’re getting less and less productive as the day goes on?

What do YOU do in the morning?

Let’s do a quick self-check in

Ask yourself these questions

  • What do I do when I first open my eyes?
  • What is my first thought of the day?

[If you don’t know the answers to these questions, make a note and answer them tomorrow morning]

If your answer to the above included checking Facebook, going through emails or replying to text messages, then you’re potentially already starting your day off on the wrong foot.

Remember, our minds will continually repeat the same habits UNTIL we interrupt it. But today you’ve clicked on a great blog post as I will share with you how to have a better and more productive morning.

‘Our minds are the most productive in the first 3 hours of waking up’

They say that the 1st hour of your day dictates how the rest of your day turns out. Our minds are the most productive in the first 3 hours of waking up. Naturally, as the day progresses our minds become more and more fatigued and we find it more difficult to make decisions or be productive.

This means that the first 60 mins are crucial for a successful day. However, 86% of us still check our phones within this golden hour! By checking our phones first thing in the morning instantly puts us into reactive mode. We react to whatever flashes on our screens; a ‘like’, a new post, a text message.

Ideally in the morning we want to make the most of our productive and energised brain. We want to create the right environment that will let our creative juices flow!

What is a morning for champions?

It’s a morning where you prepare your mind for the day. You feed your brain with inspiring and empowering things instead of filling it with trash. You take time to reflect and carefully plan your day before diving in to do your first task.

How do you do it?

Now I’ve called this a morning for champions because that’s exactly how you’ll feel once you’ve accomplished it! Your mind will be clear, you’ll feel focused and productive [and all of this before you’ve even stepped foot out the door!]

The following suggestions will help you see a positive difference in your day. These are methods that I use and I find it helps massively! I won’t lie to you, there are some days where I wake up too late or habitually reach for my phone. But hey I’m human!

Prayer/Meditation

I’m a massive fan of quiet time. (For obvious reasons!) I use these moments for reflection and thought. My method of quiet time includes prayer and meditation but it’s up to you how you do it. I find focusing on breathing really helps to bring calm and peace into the mind.

Read

Next I will read something inspiring and empowering. My first choice of book is the Bible. I find the Bible is filled with many stories/ parables that I can apply to my own life. It’s filled with positivity. However, you may have a book you’re reading that you can also gain inspiration from. I usually read a few verses of the Bible then move onto another book I’m reading.

Journal

Once you’ve cleared your mind through meditation and reading you’ll want to write down your inspiration for the day. Or you may want to write down all the unwanted things in your head. I find writing these down in a journal gets it out of my head and onto paper. It creates space in my mind to be relaxed and focused for the day ahead. Some people find it helpful to write a to-do list at this point to get the day in order.

Nutritious breakfast

Don’t skip breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It improves your health and performance . How do you expect to function at your optimum level if you’ve not put any fuel in your tank?

Duration: Depends how extravagant you want to go with your breakfast. But in my case porridge and eggs take about 15mins

Total time: 1 hour 10 mins

It only takes 1 hour 10 min to drastically change your morning! That just means going to bed an hour earlier and simply waking up an hour before your alarm. If you want to break old habits why don’t you try this one morning  and let me know how you get on!

Until next time champions!

What’s your morning routine? How do you set yourself up for the day?
